April 16 - Day 7 - Richmond + London

Today we did a slightly different type of UK activity! We opted to take the underground to Richmond, England, to see some of the sites where Ted Lasso was filmed!

We got slightly confused at the underground station as we were starting out, but we quickly figured out a plan that would work, and we were on our way. It wasn’t a super long trek to Richmond, and the “underground” became the “overground” as we got closer. The homes, buildings, and scenery were beautiful!

Pauline had found a self-guided walking tour online that we could follow. We looked ahead of time (well, like last week) for official tours and it seems they are only offered on Sundays, so we were on our own. But it was nice, because we were able to pick and choose which things we wanted to see! The website for the tour is here in case you want to check it out for yourself. I’m also counting on the fact that the author of that post is accurate on season and episode numbers. :)

We walked not far from the Richmond train station and found The Richmond Theatre, the outside of which was used for the exterior shots of the gala in Season 1, Episode 4.

Then we were getting pretty close to the time of our lunch booking, so we ventured that way. We had time ahead of lunch to walk down Paved Court to see the entrance to Ted’s flat…

And to stop in the official Ted Lasso store and make a few purchases!

We walked right on down to The Prince’s Head, which is the exterior of The Crown and Anchor pub. Inside, they quickly ushered us to “Ted’s table,” which is not the table used in the movie, but one they have set up for Ted Lasso enthusiasts!  We were lucky enough to be able to eat there!

After a lunch of fish and chips, and the obligatory Ted-and-Beard-style-cheers with our drinks, we headed back out to explore a bit more. We made a return trip to the official Ted Lasso store for an additional purchase and to a nearby restaurant for some of Ted’s “Biscuits with Boss.”

We stopped outside the pub for some photos of/on the red phone boxes and the bench where Ted and Beard have a beer after Michelle leaves in Season 1, Episode 5.

Then we journeyed down the street to Pembroke Villas where we found the house that was used for the exterior shorts of Rebecca’s house, and the interior shots may have been filmed there as well.

Along the Richmond green we found the tree-lined path where Higgins walked his dog while talking to Rebecca about the paparazzi picture of Ted and Keeley Jones in Season 1, Episode 2.

We finished our walking tour by passing by Danieli, a chocolate and gelato shop. Ted and Beard walk by this in Season 1, Episode 2.

We took the underground back to London, this time to St. James Park station so we could head to the Churchill War Rooms. This is the secret underground headquarters-turned-museum where the course of WWII was determined. This was on my “must-do” list in London, so I’m so glad we got around to it! It was absolutely fascinating!  You really can tell that it was just like they left it when the war ended. A few pictures below…

We decided we’d head back toward our flat and look for a place to eat dinner.  One more view of Big Ben on our way to the underground…

We ended up eating at Emilia’s Crafted Pasta which was absolutely delicious.

Then we stopped for some more of my favorite cider (to take to Paris with me!) and walked back to the flat. We’ve been re-watching episodes of Ted Lasso all week in the late night hours to prepare for today - so we’ll continue doing that tonight, as well as getting packed and ready to leave. In the morning we Chunnel to Paris!

It was another banner day!
