We left Cheyenne around 7:30 a.m. Though we hit the road immediately from our hotel, it wasn’t long before we stopped in Laramie. I desperately needed a drink from Starbucks (I often don’t sleep well on the road and it was catching up with me!), and while we were there we drove past the University of Wyoming.
Somewhere along the way, my maps app did this, which kept things interesting for a while…
but eventually it came back, and Mom kept up on the paper map (!!) as well.
We stopped for lunch in Dubois. Thanks to Yelp we tried a restaurant called the Bread Board. It was an amped up Subway (much better!) and gave us the fuel we needed to continue on our drive.
We were stopped for quite a while - somewhere out there - by this guy.
They were re-paving the road and it was one lane (for two directions) for a looooong way. Once we got past that, it was smooth sailing.
We got to Grand Teton National Park and immediately turned on the Gypsy app. For those of you who haven’t heard of it, there’s a guy - we’ve named him Oliver though I know he has a real name - who narrates your route. It’s all satellite based so it doesn’t matter that you don’t have cell service. He tells you which turnoffs are worth your time and which ones you can skip, etc. So worth it! The Teton tour is combined with Yellowstone since one place practically runs in to the other. We have his tours of Glacier, the Badlands, and Mount Rushmore ready to go for later!
Once we made it to our hotel, Jackson Lake Lodge, we rested for a bit, ordered dinner, and hit the road to see if we could find wildlife! We hit the jackpot right off the bat with bison and antelope… and it was a good thing, because we didn’t see anything else for the rest of the night except a group of elk - from a large distance!
We came back to the hotel and got organized so we could get some rest. I had decided I’d be setting an alarm for 6 a.m. to try again on the wildlife.

Great photos! That last one, WOW! What is the second to last?
ReplyDeleteWe are in the same part of the world! We did Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park and Wind Cave today! Crazy Horse was my favorite! Check it out if you have time. The movie in the visitor’s center and museum is great! Enjoy! This is such a beautiful part of the country!
