Glacier Day 1

The morning started with Mom asking me to do a bit of research on the wildfires.  Turns out there are quite a few active ones in Montana, and though we found out none were in Glacier, we were concerned about getting from Yellowstone to Glacier safely and without closed roads, etc.  We ended up calling a phone number and talked to two very nice people (Fire rangers?  Is that a thing?) who helped us determine that the way we hoped to go would work out fine.  We hit the road slightly later than planned but it all worked out just fine.

I will say that Montana is MUCH more interesting than Wyoming.  Still lots of wide open spaces, but also adorable small towns and lots of fun ranches to see along the way.  We stopped in Helena for lunch (that makes the third state capitol for this trip!) and arrived at our hotel just before 4:00 p.m.  We’ll stay here for two nights.  It’s a beautiful hotel - my favorite so far on this trip!

We are going on a red bus tour tomorrow.  Perhaps it looks like this?

Once we got checked in, we got settled into our room and talked to the concierge about where we might get some quick food before heading into the park.  She suggested a restaurant called Brownie’s that was right on the way to Two Medicine Lake, where we were planning to go tonight.  We headed out and stopped there… a lovely deli with a hostel attached to it.  Perfect for what we needed tonight.

We then drove toward the park, stopping at Two Medicine River along the way for a photo op.

Then we continued on to the park...

Once we got to the lake, Mom hung out in a bag chair and I set off to take pictures.  I couldn't choose which ones I liked best, so you get a lot of them!

These beautifully colored rocks were one of the things I most looked forward to seeing!

Here I raise my Ebenezer...

Two guys spent a while building this and a couple smaller ones as well.  Beautiful!

Then we sat there a while and enjoyed the water and scenery together before heading back to our hotel to get organized for tomorrow.

We haven’t seen much yet, but Glacier is wonderful already!
