We were talking at breakfast and as we were checking out with a couple and a family who were also staying at the same place. Turns out the couple lives in Fort Mill, SC, and goes to Grace Presbyterian Church. One of my seminary classmates also goes there! Every time my dad goes on a trip, he always sees somebody he knows or who knows somebody he knows, so this is not a surprise. It’s part of being a Myer.
We didn’t have much on the schedule today other than getting back to Edinburgh by late afternoon or early evening... and to hit distilleries on the way. So off we went!
First stop, about an hour down the road, was Dalwhinnie.
They served whisky with chocolate pairings... my kind of place!!
After Dalwhinnie, we headed to Pitlochry to Blair Athol. We mostly let Ken do the tasting there, although Pauline and I tried some sips of his.
After that tasting, we decided it was time to get some edible sustenance in us... so we went into the adorable town of Pitlochry for lunch. We had a great meal at Victoria’s.
I have a thing for cute churches... okay really all churches... so here’s one we saw in Pitlochry.
We saw another pretty one just up the hill. We didn’t go up to see what it was, but I felt quite certain it was Presbyterian. :)
I had done some googling. I really enjoyed the “welcome whisky” we had our first night in Oban, and it was called [something] Grouse. Turns out it was Famous Grouse, and we’d be passing close by where it was made on our way home. We took a slight detour and stopped at Glenturret Distillery. We tasted some, and I made my first whisky purchase, “Naked Grouse.” I joked with Ken that my taste in whisky is much cheaper than his. Good thing I’m just starting out!
On the way back to Edinburgh from Glenturret, we passed through Stirling and saw Stirling Castle from the road.
As we came into Edinburgh, we saw Holyrood Park from the highway...
Most of the day, I was just enjoying the GREEN! People told me I would see green like I’d never seen before. We have seen a lot of pre-summer brown, but lots of places in the Highlands were green. So, so beautiful.
We saw sheep, sheep, and more sheep on this mini-trip!
That caused me to wonder, so I googled...
Wowzers! That’s a lot of sheep.
We came back to our flat, and Seth came to meet Ken so they could take the rental car back. They then took the bus back to Seth and Brittany’s, and Pauline and I had already walked there. We played with the kids, caught up, and told them about our adventures and shared some pictures. Brittany made delicious tacos/burritos/fajitas for dinner. It is just so fun to be together!
We will see what Palm Sunday brings. Until then, it was another banner day...
And one more thing... Ken referenced in his blog the quote of the day from yesterday and I forgot to include it. As we were walking down to see Urquhart Castle, a little boy was asking his dad where the toilet was. His dad pointed to the visitor’s center way up the hill and said they’d need to walk up there. The little boy said, “Can’t I just wee in the woods?” The dad had to inform them that they would not be weeing in the woods today. 😃
Nancy, I love your “quote of the day”.
ReplyDeleteAm enjoying the trip to Scotland thanks to both of the blogs!
