The pictures don’t do it justice, but there are still a zillion of them...

This morning we went downstairs for breakfast which included Colin’s homemade Scottish porridge. We had filled out sheets of paper last night with what we wanted for breakfast and what time we planned to come down. I declined having whisky in my porridge, but I did taste Ken’s haggis. Pretty good! Once we had filled our bellies, we loaded our bags and headed into town to the Oban Distillery.

The tour was very interesting, and we got to taste Oban 14 and Little Bay along the way. I just may come to like whisky after all!

Once the tour was over, we went to the car to begin our trek to the Isle of Skye. We came to a roundabout almost immediately, and “Maggie” (what Ken named our GPS) told us to “take the first exit.”  Ken said, “Maggie, we call that a left turn at home!”

Colin had told us to drive to Appin to check out the Stalker Castle. He said to drive to the cafe and pull around behind it and said we would see beautiful views of the castle from up above. This is why you stay at the B&B and get these tips - he was so right!

When we were ready to leave the castle, we discussed what route we would take next and decided to head toward Fort William and then back toward the west coast to go up to Skye. We took a ferry from Ardgour to Corran. When we got off the ferry, we turned left, not knowing that we should have turned right. We thought “Maggie” was trying to get us to take a shortcut (when in reality she was trying to get us to turn around), so we chose to ignore her and keep driving along the coast. It was a happy accident because then we came to this...

Turns out this is one of the few places where you can see the ancient volcanoes of Ben Nevis and Glen Coe simultaneously. The snow-capped one on the far left is Ben Nevis and the hump in the middle of the two tallest humps is Glen Coe.

I was eying the footing below me to determine if I could walk down safely to the “beach” area. I decided to give it a try.

From down there, I took a picture of Ken and Pauline, and Ken took mine.

I also have a “thing” for lighthouses... since I was in high school... so we got to go by this one twice since we had to double back and go the right direction!

We kept moving on our journey, viewing some of the most beautiful landscapes along the way...

Let’s not forget the sheep and the Heilan coos!

We took the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale and we were officially on the Isle of Skye!

More stops for scenery including one to capture the beauty of this waterfall!

We arrived in Portree where we would be staying the night. We put our bags in our rooms and then went for a walk to explore.

We stopped for a pint before heading back to our B&B for dinner.

On the way back, we got another great view of the harbor in the distance.

I had fish and chips again and we stayed long enough to hear some live Scottish music.

Tomorrow we plan to drive the Trotternish Peninsula on Skye and then drive to Inverness. Another banner day!
